fourth artefact lesson

This week we spent alot of the day working on our sketch books because we are behind and need to catch up so were not rushing about at last minute trying to catch up on work from weeks ago. This is good because then we all know that we are on track with work and also checking them regularly will help us if we have done any work wrong or missed something out or need to start something again.
After we where learning about a artist called Phillippe Halsman and one of his peices calle Dali Atomicus. It is a picture where he has some things hanging so it looks like they are floating and he is jumping. There are also cats being thrown across the page and water. We learnt how this picture was done in different layers so when the watter is going accross the man and nothing else gets wet and the chair is hung on the ceeling by a wire. Its a very impressive peice of work but the best part was when we got into groups and tryed to re creat the piece of work. unfortunatly we wernt aloud to through cats. I wanted to be the one who was jumping but so did James and i knew i couldnt beet James so i was the person holding the chair instead of the chair hanging Kara was throughing the water and Emily was taking the photo. Well it started off with emily doing the water and kara taking the photo but they swapped around. We worked well as a group and got quite a fue good pictures so it was hard to pick only one to stick into our books we couldnt all agree on just one picture so we stuck two in. After i had worked in my group i went and helped another group because they needed someone to through the water. It took ages and the builders kept watching and laughing witch was abit off putting but we still carried on working. James wasn't getting the picture taken at the right time so when Miss came out she helped and we got it right after about 3 shots .
Next week we will be getting our breif about our project and what our peice of art has to be about and what it will have to include to be able to be shown in the place.

Third Artefact Lesson (:

Today we started off working on our sketch books and bloggs untill about 11 then we where getting ready to go out and do some more pictures so we could get from only about 8 pictures comming out to all 24 of the pictures comming out. We had to try and find pattern and textures to take pictures of like brick for pattern and leaves and objects with different textures. I found this much easyer than the word isolation because there are a lot more options. I took quite alot of the pictures because we did alot of them laying on the floor and Emily didnt want to do that so i did them instead. I dont want to seem big headed but most of the pictures emily took they where blury or not focused anyway but we still got our full 24 on the film and they all came out no blanks so i was happy about that. After we started to do test strips and final coppys. I was dissapointed with how my test strips turned out because i was usally good at them but this week i kept acidently moving the strip so the picture was blured so i had to do them again i ended up with pages of test strips and not very many final ones but the final ones i did do im happy with them and the exposure was just right and the focus.

Artefact lesson two (:

Today we started off in a different room and it took us a while to find it but it we found it in the end. We where going over what we where supposed to have done for this lesson but hardly any of us had done it so we spent up untill break working on our sketch books for a bit.
After break we where back in the normal room and we cut our negatives in to strips of 6 and put them in a plastic thing. We then where shown how to use the inlarger and how to do contact prints then how to do test prints so we spent up untill lunch doing test strips to stick into our sketch books to show our progress over the day.
After lunch we started on our final prints using what we found out using our test strips on how long to time it for. Most of my final prints came out okkay but some where a bit too dark and some where a bit too light but then i knew what to do to fix it and that was just to have the light on for a little bit longer or a little bit less.

artefact lesson one (:

Today we started a new unit and its all independant work. Before break we where shown how to use the cameras and how to develop the films. After break we went out in pairs to take pictures of the word that we where given ours was isolation and we struggled with this because there arn't many things around cambridge that are isolated because it was busy but we unded up getting some good pictures. The ones that came out best on the negatives where the one of the duck that i chased around the field trying to get the picture. The picture of me holding the peice of paper saying isolation because we had ran out of ideas and the picture of me sitting on the bench with the shadows of the glass frame comming through onto the floor and it has leading lines but the only problem is that the lines are the first thing you notice and your eyes follow them along to me on the bench but that should be the main focus.
After we took all the photos we had to develop them but first we had to get the film into the light proof tub so the film wouldn't get spoiled. I was left to do this job and it was really hard becasue you couldnt see what you where doing and im not used to that and it took me quite a while to get the hang of it. After that I developed them while emily timed how long the proccess where taking and after it was developed washed fixed and then washed again it was ready to go into the dryer.
Next week we will be enlarging the negatives and printing them to stick into our sketch books.
